2024 - Current

Farer Dreamer, in it's current state, is a prototype game about a character named Doc who travels on a magical subway car that takes them... basically anywhere. This project was a solo endeavor and challenged not only my game development and artistic abilities, but also my capacity to learn and adapt to new programs, concepts, and environments during a 7 month period.

Farer Dreamer: About

Farer Dreamer is a game project that I began working on in fall 2024 as my senior thesis at MooreCAD. It's a mixed bag sorta game (though I just call it a minigame collection) made in the Unity engine about a little guy named Doc who travels on a subway train to random destinations. This game wasn't what I had originally planned on making going into my senior year, but after the closure of my former university UArts I decided to switch gears and came up with this idea in early August.Initally, my intent with Farer Dreamer was to use it as a way to play with my art again and try new things, and having it be more of an open-ended concept that I could add onto later would hopefully put a bit less pressure on me as I adjusted to Moore to finish out my senior year. Throughout my time developing Farer Dreamer's prototype I improved my understanding of Unity's 3D functions and tools and finally began learning how to use Blender for 3D modeling and texturing (I had used Maya and Substance Painter prior).Ultimately this project was less of a showcase of my main area of focus (2D art and gamedev) and wound up being more of a challenge to see what I could learn/brush up on and create during this roughly 7 month period. Much like what happens in the game itself, it was more about the journey as opposed to a specific destination.I do intend to continue to work on Farer Dreamer at some point after graduation. It has no set deadline, never has technically, instead I'd like to treat it as I had initially intended: a way to experiment and play with my work once more.
Though I do definitely need a break from it for a bit.
Throughout development I kept a regulary updated devlog which can be read HERE if interested!
There's lots of screenshots and gifs of early builds and you can see everything come together :)

VS. Offiz

2024

VS. Offiz is a short, Undertale-like boss battle that I coded and created the assets for in Spring 2024.
It features two characters of mine: Offiz, a clown-like computer virus who occasionally wreaks havoc on the cyber lands with their cannonballs and laughing popups, and AV, a freelance anti-virus program who tries to prevent malware from doing just that.

Arcade Anarchy

2023

This short 3D FPS is the result of a roughly two week long endeavor. My primary job for this project was to handle the character designs, animation and implementation of the sprite animations. I also handled the UI assets. I had wanted to do more, specifically some sort of small intro cutscene as seen below, but was a bit crunched for time unfortunately. If you want to check the game out for yourself, the download can be found HERE!

VS. Nightmare - Everhood Custom Battle Mod

2022

This was a custom battle I had made for Everhood's Year 1 Custom Battle Contest in early 2022, and while I didn't place I did receive an honorable mention. Pretty cool considering this was my first foray into working with the Unity Engine! If you have Everhood and would like to give it a shot, you can download it HERE

Sprites and Spritesheets

Hello, I'm Lex! I'm an artist who mainly mainly specializes in 2D art, animation, and games, though I dabble in 3D from time to time as well! I've recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA with a BFA in Animation and Game Art.When I'm not creating I'm usually looking for new games to play and get inspired by! I have a soft spot for 2D RPGs or platformers with unique art styles and characters.
